Rhonda Hunter....continued

I've only won one National Shoot and that was the Archery Shooter Association or the ASA's Colorado Pro Am 3-D Tournament. For health reasons I've had to step out of the Archery tour for a year or so. I was infected with Lyme Disease in 1994, and wasn't diagnosed until 1996. I now have chronic Lyme, that I believe I have under control. It's been a long struggle.

I run classes in my home town for kids all summer long. I am a certified instructor for archery. I teach basic archery and advanced archery to youth. This has always been on a volunteer basis, I haven't ever asked for a fee.I travel around Colorado and do seminars at Middle Schools and High Schools for Archery in general. I'm not allowed to bring up the subject of hunting, but if a child asks I'm allowed to answer. This is also on a Volunteer basis.

I started a club 3 years ago called "Sportsmen for Humanities." We choose a recipient that unfortunately needs help of some sorts. We put on a 3-D shoot, lunch and silent auction. All proceeds go to the recipient. We haven't held 1999's as of yet. The last two recipients were a 1 1/2 year old with cancer, and last year a 29 year old man with a family of 6 with leukemia. We don't raise much, but every bit helps. It is nice to know that each recipient beat the odds and are doing well.

I have harvested nice animals, to me all animals taken with a bow are world records! I was fortunate enough to harvest a Black Bear that is Pope and Young. He scored 20 7/16 inches and weighed about 450-500 lbs. I also harvested a really nice 8 point Whitetail buck in Alberta. I'm not really a trophy hunter, and just enjoy hunting in general. I will harvest a doe just as fast as a buck.

So why did I go to South Africa? I researched and found out that a lot of the meat was used by the natives and in nursing homes. That made me happy, so we booked. My blesbok was sitting 4th in the Safari Club International Bowhunting book, but that was only a green score and not official. The other animals I harvested went book also, but nothing has been scored officially.
